What is the AIS Program ? • Supplemental – does NOT take the place of classroom instruction • Support Provided – Intervention, Remediation, Reinforcement/Practice, and/or Preview Skills • Pull Out
AIS Program Goal • …For each student to have the knowledge, skills, strategies, and confidence to perform in math and reading without assistance.
How was my child selected to participate in the AIS Program? * Math Unit Test Scores * NYS Math Test * Student Support Team ( SST ) * Teacher Observation/ *Recommendations
AIS Math Selection Process • New Students – All Out of State Students: Screened, and receive services, if needed Other NYS Districts: If student received math services, they will continue or they can be recommended through an SST
Selection Process Continued ... Level 6-8 – Continuation from previous Level, Recommendation through SST, Math Unit Test Scores, and/or NYS Math Test
How often and where will my child be attending AIS Math classes? • Depending on your child’s schedule they may meet during encore every other day or during DEAR 3-5 times a week • Pull Out – Miss Garlapow - Rm 215B
How will I know how my child is doing? • Progress Reports • Parent/Teacher Conference(s) • Telephone Conference(s)
How long will my child participate in the AIS Math Program? • As long as needed … • … to demonstrate he/she has the knowledge, skills, strategies, and confidence to perform in math and reading without assistance.
What can I do, at home, to help my child succeed in math? • Memorize Math Facts Addition/Subtraction Multiplication/Division • Insist on Neat, Organized Work • Encourage them to bring questions to class • Attend the “Think Tank” program before or after school • Make sure all homework is complete
