  3. Description A wolf is a mammal that walks on 4 legs. Wolves have large ears, and they have thick fur. The color of the fur is gray, brown, tan, black and white. They have large sharp teeth and long legs. They have long bushy tails, often black tipped. 1

  4. Diet Wolves are carnivores. Wolves eat large hoofed animals including moose, white tailed deer, caribou, elk, bison , and mountain goats. Wolves also sometimes eat hares, beavers, and birds. Wolves like to eat meat. 2

  5. Survival • Wolves were once common throughout all of North America but were killed in most forests of the United States by the mid 30’s. Today their range has been reduced to Canada and these portions of the United States: Alaska, Idaho , and Michigon. The red wolf was hunted from the pine forest of the east. Several hundred wolves are killed illegally for their valuable coats. Each year between 35 and 45 wolves killed legally as predators in Minnesota. 3

  6. Habitat Wolves live in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, North America, Australia and the Artic. They live in a den. Gray wolves make their homes in the forest.

  7. Other Facts Wolves are tired from hunting all night. Wolves lie down for their afternoon naps. Father wolf lies down too , but keeps watching over the pack as mother wolf sleeps. Wolves can be many colors. Most are gray but some are black ,golden brown ,rusty red ,or pure white. Their are fewer then 200,00 wolves left in the world.
