Current happenings-City of Colorado Springs • Largest alternative fuel program in history • $3.7 million Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant • Sustainability plan, LED streetlight pilot, municipal facility retrofits, low-income home weatherization, commercial audit partnership with Utilities & higher education institutions • Tree City USA for 32 consecutive years • APA Sustainability Award for Streamside Overlay ordinance • Current happenings-Colorado Springs Utilities • Renewable energy • Woody biomass, Cascade hydro power plant, USAFA solar array, wind power negotiations, renewable energy certificates • Fountain Creek Corridor Master Plan • Testing emission control technology

Year in review - City of Colorado Springs • Hired first Sustainability Coordinator • Adopted 6 Sustainability Principles • Green Fair had 1,000 attendees • 7 LEED Accredited Professionals on staff • “Art of Recycling” program launched • Member City of USGBC and PPSBN • Year in review - Colorado Springs Utilities • Working with Governor’s Energy Office • Climate Action Plan • Program funding, such as insulation, solar hot water and builders’ program • Leadership in Housing ENERGY STAR Award

Organization Name: City of Manitou Springs – Manitou Springs Climate Protection Committee (also, Mayor’s Renewal Energy Task Force) Mission: December 2007, Resolution No. 3607 “The City of Manitou will strive to achieve, in both its municipal operations and throughout the larger community, a 10% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from its 2005 levels by 2010, 30% reduction from 2005 levels by 2020 and commits to ensuring that all new building and developments can and will be carbon neutral, generating or offsetting as much energy as they consume by 2030.” Sustainability Policy: To assist Manitou Springs with creating a sustainable energy future and address global warming.

Current happenings: ●Posted Performance Contracting ESCo RFP and approved ESCo recommendation, ● Proceeding with a City-wide Single Stream Recycling project, ● Ascertaining our water allocation rights and the purchase of water from Fry-Ark and Pueblo Reservoir in case of a drought, ● Approved the Fountain Creek Restoration Project Master Plan, ● Adopted Climate Action Plan and Established Green House Gas reduction targets, ● Established a city-wide Parking Authority Board, ● Created the Mayor's Renewable Energy Task Force, ● Supported the creation of Partners for Healthy Choices, ● Largest public works project in the history of Manitou Springs.

Last Year in Review: ●Created and appointed an Energy Services Company (ESCo) Selection Committee, ● Manage, Conserve and support the Restoration of Fountain Creek, ● Approved a Trademark License Agreement for our City Logo, ● Streamlined Parade Permit, City Sponsorship and Waiver of Fees, ● Approved a conditional use for a home-based preschool, ● Created a Charter Review Committee, ●Moved the Community Drum Circle back to Memorial Park, ● Yoga Classes in Memorial Hall, ● Approved $20 million renovation of the Cliff House West, ● Inclusion of Restorative Justice in the state's Children's Code, ● Adopted Amended Historic District Design Guidelines.

  11. Future Plans and Thoughts: Strategic plans toward sustainability, initiatives. I. District 14 Energy Performance Contracting  Results for first 9 months of 2008;  Natural gas usage reduced 64%  Electricity usage reduced 46%  Savings of $135,000  Atmospheric CO2 reduced 53% or 2.2 million pounds II. Continued City-Wide Initiatives  Continued support of Sustainable Manitou Springs classes and Manitou Springs Annual Energy and Climate Action Fairs  Implementation of Resolution No. 3607 – GHG Reduction Targets III. Assist with regional efforts to develop climate protection plans and green jobs and businesses.

Transportation Planning • Vision: Create a sustainable multi-modal transportation system that meets regional mobility and accessibility expectations as essential elements of the Pikes Peak Area’s quality of life. • Mission: Plan multi-modal transportation facilities and services that efficiently move people and good economic vitality, and sustain and improve the quality of life in the Pikes Peak Region. Military Impact Planning – Sustainability/Economic Development • Provide analysis and recommendations for capitalizing on the growth at Fort Carson and leveraging its sustainability efforts in order to increase sustainable practices and create economic development opportunities within the Peaks Peak region • Currently developing an action plan (spring 2010) with recommendations, timeline, responsibilities, etc.
