  2. Overall Objective of Graduation Initiative • To improve retention and graduation rates through improved academic performance of the students, with special attention to underrepresented students • Programs designed to identify areas of difficulty and provide solutions

  3. Misconceptions • The goal is NOT to lower standards to pass students, but rather to improve student performance to meet high standards • The Graduation Initiative is NOT a substitute for budget cuts. They are improvements that should be undertaken in good times and bad.

  4. Initiatives for 2011-2012 • Year of Advising • Early Warning System to Address At-Risk Student Behavior • Learning Communities • Enriching Courses to Improve Student Success • Bronco Activity Record (MyBAR) for Student Engagement • Bronco Interactive Dashboards

  5. Year of Advising • Review of advising processes on campus • Advising task force • Additional feedback

  6. Early Warning System to Address At-Risk Student Behavior • Design of early alert systems to proactively identify students with difficulties • Administrative indicators • Academic indicators • Feedback in user friendly formats • Funded by Kellogg Legacy Endowment

  7. Learning Communities • Potentially very powerful • Committee constituted to explore which modalities would work best at CPP • Funded by Kellogg Legacy Endowment

  8. Enriching Courses to Improve Student Success • First round under way • Physics, Mechanical Eng., and Electrical and Computer Eng. have programs under way • First Enriched class offerings expected Fall 2012 • Second round proposals just received • Funded by Kellogg Legacy Endowment

  9. Bronco Activity Record (MyBAR) for Student Engagement • Capture levels of student engagement • Deployed Fall 2011 • Clubs have filled rosters • Looking to evaluate data

  10. Bronco Interactive Dashboards • Provide easy access to graduation and retention data (still under development) • Data is disaggregated by • Major • Ethnicity • Socioeconomic factors • Gender • Etc. • Funded by Kellogg Legacy Endowment
