  5. Word Sorts • Closed (teacher-directed) • Open (students choose) Concept Sorts: vocabulary from--- Weather words Boat terms Birds squall rigging vireo mist bow wren breeze stern beak

Word Chains • Students choose a word and then identify 3 or 4 words to sequence before or after it to make a chain. • tadpole = egg-tadpole-frog • aggravate= irritate-bother-annoy • Easier Books: select words whose concepts fit into the story If character is afraid: discussion If a cookie is MMMM good….discuss scrumptious
