  3. Blame • The USA senate pointed the finger at the Californian , a merchant vessel sailing from London to Boston.

  4. Response • The Californian Captain , Stanley Lord, Claimed his men tried to signal a distant ship with a flashing Morse lamp, which had a range of 16km, but got no response.

  5. The Samson • There may have been a third ship near by a Norwegian sailing boat called the Samson, Which was illegally hunting seals in the area. According to the diary of the first officer Henrik Naess, the Samson’s crew saw the Titanic’s distress rockets, but hurried away.

  6. Death • Out of 2,200 passengers just 712 survived the sinking. As they sat shivering in the lifeboats, there was no certainty that they would be rescued.

  7. The children • For the children, it must have been particularly terrifying. Parents did there best to cheer them up by pointing to the shooting stars while Edith Rosenbaum Russell entertained others on her boat with her musical pig.
