CDSHOD funded and supported by: • Ministry of Labor and Social Developemt, Kyrgyz Republic, • Royal Thai Government, • Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), • Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD)
Objectives: • To build capacity of Self Help Organization of PWDs in Central Asia. • To promote CRPD, BMF and BMF plus five. • To promote Central Asia network in order to support information sharing. • To strengthen and develop sub regional Networking and Collaboration among DPOs, UN agencies, APCD and government.
Participants: • Representative of DPOs in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. • UN Agencies • Representatives from Governments Observers: • World Vision-Uzbekistan • JICA representative.
Program: • CRPD, BMF and BMF plus five the way forward for the implementation of the international instruments. • UN system-wide commitment to the promotion of CRPD. • The role of Disabled Peoples’ Organization to promote CRPD. • SHOs role in creating an inclusive society at the international, national and community levels. • Rethinking of Disability or Disability Equality Training (DET). • Community based empowerment initiatives cross disability SHOs in the community. • How to strengthen and collaboration SHOs and the network on disability in Central Asia. • Development of a sub regional network in Central Asia. • The role of women with disabilities in SHOs. • Role of SHOs in promoting an inclusive society.

Rethinking Disability or Disability Equality Training (DET) • Course Aim: • To enable participants to develop an understanding of disability that is based on the Social Model of Disability and to identify areas within their organization/venue that could be changed to promote the participation of disabled people. • Course Objectives: • To identify language which is offensive to disabled people and to use more acceptable terms • To begin to question and challenge attitudes and levels of awareness regarding disability • To critically examine the Medical Model of Disability and to introduce the Social Model of Disability • To identify areas for change and to develop an action plan for implementing change. Outcomes: • Bishkek Statement on Rights-based Approach to Disability in Central Asia , • Informal Central Asia Networking is developed by utilizing resource room provided by JICA and Ministry of Labor and Social development, • Unified of Association of PWDs is strengthened. • Networking and collaboration among Govs, UN Agencies, APCD, JICA, Int’ agency, SHOs and DPI is strengthened, • Disability Equality Training (DET) is implemented and expanded in Central Asia.
Unified Organization of DPOs in Kyrgyz Republic Seven DPOs came together to establish this body. The President is Mr. Mambetakunov from Blind and Deaf Association.Though they started with seven organizations, they have their membership open to other organizations and bring force together.They hope to become a member of DPI/AP. Members of seven DPOs Post CDSHOD organized focused on independent living and accessibility. And discuss to process to apply to be a member so DPI by August of before Regional Council meeting. The Unified organization of DPOs also apply to associated member of APCD, According to BMF, APCD is regional mechanism to implement BMF .

Wheelchair Assistant project In Thailand, DPI/AP collaborate with AJU on wheelchair assistant project not only to receive and contribute those wheelchair to recipients. We are not a postman and we, PWDs, are expert on our issues so we create leaning process on to the procedure of project by collaborating with High School Students, PWDs, parents of CWDs. Such as training on basic disability issues and awareness campaign to those who concerns to the project.

The result of women with disabilities informal meeting; • Central Asia network of WWWs priority needs information support from DPI and APCD. • DPOs in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic are focal of information support. They will support in Eng-Russian translation and forward Russian version among their members.
