  2. Background Established in 1988 by Prof. Stefanos Kollias (Director) Belongs to the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) School of Electrical & Computer Engineering Computer Science division and the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS)

  3. Quality Management • Since 1997, the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology (GSRT) has selected IVML, as a Service Providing Lab in its field; IVML was funded to • acquire and install professional audiovisual equipment • implement its ISO 9001 quality management plans • In May 2000 IVML became the first lab in its department and the third in the NTUA to obtain the ISO 9001 certificate

Research Topics • Image and video processing and analysis • Knowledge based adaptive content analysis • Content-based semantic retrieval of multimedia information • The MPEG-7, MPEG-21 standards and Semantic Web technologies • Artificial neural network, fuzzy and neurofuzzy technologies • Intelligent human computer interaction & intelligent agents • Face, emotion and biometric analysis and recognition • MPEG-4 and natural-synthetic hybrid coding, augmented reality • Applications in cultural heritage, surveillance, communications, medicine
