  1. The Inner Puck Bay Task 3.1.2.7 “Studies of macrozoobenthos and meiofauna at 80 stations” Urszula Janas, Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdańsk Jan Warzocha, Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia

  2. Methods • Sampling data: 13 July to 22 August 2007 • Number of stations: 54 (depth 0.7-7.4 m) Macrofauna - two types of grab: Ekman (3x) and Van veen(2-3 x) 201 Macrofaunal samples at 54 stations Meiofauna: Reineck-type box corer 60 meiofaunal samples at 20 stations

  3. General results Macrofauna • 35 taxa • Total abundance: 1733 – 32900 ind.*m-2 • Total biomass: 6 – 240 g*m-2 • Bivalvia was the most abundant group in the area Meiofauna • 16 taxa • Total abundance: 77-3869 ind.*10 cm-2 • Nematoda contribution ranged from 76 to 94 %

  4. Soft bottom macrofaunal communities in selected biotopes: 1. Soft bottom 2. Potamogeton spp. / Zannichellia palustris / Ruppia maritima beds 3. Zostera marina beds 4. Chara spp. beds

  5. Soft bottom biotope • Areas without meadows of vascular plants but some areas are covered by blanket of filamentous algae • 13 stations • Depth: 1.7-7.4 m

  6. Station UG4 (5 m) Station UG5 (3 m) Station UG7 (5 m) Station UG8 (5.5 m)

  7. Macrobenthic community in soft bottom biotope • 24 taxa • Total abundance: from 6888 to 32456 ind.* m-2 • Total biomass : 19-216 g*m-2 Community structure

  8. Similarity of species composition and abundance

  9. Cerastoderma glaucum dominatedcommunity

  10. Potamogeton spp. / Zannichellia palustris / Ruppia maritima beds • 30 stations • Depth: 1.2-5.5 m • Vascular plants were often covered by blanket of filamentous algae
