Note Taking Procedures(on regular notebook paper) • Write the chapter number and section in the upper left corner of your paper. 1.1
Divide paper into 1/3 and 2/3rds • Fold the paper over so you can draw a line down the page about 1/3 of the way across the paper.
Write the title of the chapter on the first line • Write the heading on the next line to the left. • Under the heading, • write an answer • to any question • or a one sentence • summary of the • main idea in the paragraph. (If any) 1.1 Biology and You Themes in Biology
Write the red headings but change it into a question that can be answered by reading that section; highlight them in red. (Questions go on the left) • Write a one sentence answer to the question from that paragraph or list the items that answer that question. • Answers on the right! 1.1 Biology and you Becomes… What are some Themes in Biology Characteristics of Living Organisms What are characteristics of living organisms? Complex, made of cells, etc
List any bold print vocabulary words under the section in which they appear in your book along with the definition. • Words on the left, definitions on the right of the line. • Highlight the vocabulary word in yellow.
Write all blue sub headings and highlight them in blue. Also change these into questions if appropriate. • If there are not any vocabulary words in this section, just answer the question by reading the information under the blue heading. • Leave room to add notes as we go over this! • Answer the section review questions in complete sentences.
You can fold the one side of your notes over to hide the notes and ask yourself the questions as a study guide!
Vocabulary words • on 3 X 5 Note cards, with a hole in one corner, kept on a ring. • Write the word in bold print on one side of an index card. Use a marker. • Write the meaning on the back. • Draw a picture or diagram to show the meaning of the word on the front. Use 2 colors. • After the word has been studied, add notes to the card. Highlight the notes!
Chapter Review Questions • Write the answers only to the review questions on notebook paper. Include this in your notebook for the chapter. Each chapter will have certain ones that will be assigned.
Daily Reflections • After each class, make a note of at least 3 things you learned that day. • Write these on your daily reflection log. • These may be collected at any point and graded as a quiz grade!
Materials for Class • Notebook, paper, pen, pencil, index cards, ring binder, calculator, color pencils, graph paper and a good attitude
