Introduction • NUREG—1556 Series provides detailed guidance for obtaining materials licenses • 21 Volume set - most published between 1997- 2000 • Vol. 21 Published in 2007
Project Objectives • Objectives: • Suspend good faith presumption and remove exploitable information • Incorporate security into licensing process • General update for current regulatory policies • Safety Culture

Current Status • Eight Volumes have started • Vol. 1 (Portable Gauges), • Vol. 2 (Radiography), • Vol. 3 (SS&D), • Vol. 4 (Fixed Gauges) • Vol. 8 (Exempt Distribution) • Vol. 15 (Bankruptcy) • Vol. 16 (GL Distribution) • Vol. 20 (Admin. Licensing Procedures)
Current Status (Continued) • Vol. 2 is the furthest along • Plan to begin 6 more volumes before the end of the year.
Exploitable Information • In December 2010 – RCPD-10-013 • The letter asked for input from the Agreement States on the information in the NUREG-1556 Series that could potentially be exploited by an adversary • NRC Regions were asked for the same information
Safety Culture • Including Safety Culture in the NUREG-1556 Series: • NRC published policy statement on June 14, 2011 • Expectation that individuals and organizations established and maintain a positive safety culture
Safety Culture (Continued) • Including Safety Culture in the NUREG-1556 Series: • The volumes will have a short write-up under the Management Responsibility Chapter • Include an Appendix with the Statement of Policy • Begins to introduce our licensees to Safety Culture
