Circulatory System or Cardiovascular System By: London S. Edwards and Christopher L. Colbert
Major Organs • The major organs of the circulatory system are the heart, blood, and vessels.
Functions of the circulatory system • The circulatory system is responsible for moving materials throughout the body. It transports nutrients, water, and oxygen to your body cells. This system also carries away wastes such as carbon dioxide that body cells make and/or produce.
How the system works • This system works because of the different types of vessels which are the arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries move blood away from the heart. Veins move blood toward the heart. Arteries and veins are connected by capillaries. The blood carries oxygen fro the lungs to all body cells and removes carbon dioxide from the cells. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin which combines with oxygen. Then, oxygen is delivered to the body by red blood cells.Blood carries waste to kidneys to be removed from the body.
