High Level Goals Long term goals • Viable and valued program that supports and enhances science education • Adopt and implement curriculum & instructional materials that make inquiry a priority (K-12) • Maintain science coach and hire a district-level science coordinator (TOSA) • Improve science content knowledge and teaching practice of K-12 teachers • Integrate effective use of technology into science teaching and research • Raise community awareness, advocacy and support for high-quality science education with relevance for OSD students • Expand student research opportunities and extend Science Showcase events to HS with ultimate goal of holding a district Science Showcase • Create strong partnerships with local colleges/universities (TESC) to support student research and Science Showcase (new Affiliated Fair?)

High Level Goals Short term goals • Encourage science teachers to be more reflective about teaching practice using student feedback • Build teacher capacity and interest to support student research/Showcase events • Increase OSD representation at the South Sound Regional Science Fair • Recognize and celebrate student (and teacher) excellence in science • Create a science-focused web resource for teachers, students and parents

Objectives • Align and integrate Action Plan with current OSD Science 5-year Plan. • Align OSD Science Showcase schedule to regional/state SEF season. • Train/support teachers in effective use of inquiry-focused curriculum materials, e.g. FOSS, CPO, Intel MS Science Fair Curriculum. • Establish Science Showcases with participation from all middle schools • Identify resources (funding) to support ongoing development of student research activities and Showcase events • Identify, develop and sustain community resources/stakeholders (mentors, judges, career options, etc.) • Explore application of Intel Teach to OSD science instruction • Bring at least 30 OSD students to the Regional Science Fair at PLU • Develop OSD Science community web presence • Recruit OSD high school team to attend 2011 Intel ISEF Educator Academy
