SERVICE-LEARNING BY: Jon Bradley Bahnsen
Service-Learning Definition: http://www.servicelearning.org/instant_info/fact_sheets/cb_facts/benefits-community-based-service-learning • Service Learning :“A teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities”
Service-Learning Benefits: http://www.servicelearning.org/instant_info/fact_sheets/cb_facts/benefits-community-based-service-learning • Young people gain access to the range of supports and opportunities . • Increased sense of self-efficacy as young people learn that they can impact real social challenges, problems, and needs. • Enhanced problem-solving skills, ability to work in teams, and planning abilities
What I got from my service-learning: Giving back to FUMC was a great thing to do. Had good times with friends while helping out an old friend and the church. For the youth I painted them chalk board walls that will be much more fun then the painting itself but at the same time it was almost just as fun helping out them and myself.
What I did: For my community service my friend Taylor and I painted part of the youth building for Justin Creenshaw at First United Methodist Church.
FUMC Youth Room These pictures are after Taylor and I painted the first layer of chalk board paint
These are pictures of me putting on the finishing touches to the chalkboard wall.
For this being a service learning opportunity I had a great time doing a great thing for the church. And when it was all done it was a good feeling doing this good work for the youth of the church.
