Current Initiative: R2 2012 Youth Humanitarian Technology Conference • Project Objective: To excite and increase student / GOLD membership activities in Region 2 by extending technological solutions and ideas to real life humanitarian problems. • Project Leader: Channon Young. • The premier student activities chair at Towson University • Attendee of the Global Humanitarian Technology Conference in Seattle. • Timeline: • Constrained to the final quarter of 2012 (or before) • Resources: • Budget estimate not yet available • Kartik Kulkarni (from the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee, recently moved in to Pittsburgh) • Measure of success: • Attendance / Continuity

Upcoming Joint Event: USA Science and Engineering Festival in DC.April 28th – 29th, 2012. • Opportunity to highlight IEEE GOLD to the technology and student community in the environ. • Mostly for sections close to the DC metropolitan area. • Sign-up sheet (everyone can participate) available at http://bit.ly/zCZEOd • More information at http://www.usasciencefestival.org/ • Project anchor: Jeffry J. Challenges & Opportunities • Challenges: • Resource availability • Low turn-out at events • Inactive GOLD AGs • Opportunities • More student oriented activities • More career-oriented workshops (that speaks tangible value to the member) • Bridging the gap between employee and employer for GOLD members seeking employment. • This should a main advantage of membership. • Continue to ‘invest’ in active GOLD / Student representatives
