Passing Mechanics • Proper Pre-Snap Preparation • Identify Keys • Positioning • Know when to switch keys • Deep Guys – Cushion • Hustle to be in good position – • Try to be minimize movement when you need to make a call • Good eye contract • Know when to switch key (zone when needed) • Stay with key a little longer on the goal line • Communicate

Pass Interference- (OPI/DPI) • Deep guys-Qualify the DEFENDER—if defender is beat then he is in ‘chase mode’. • DPI vs. Defensive Holding-know when it took place, when in doubt. ‘Material Restriction’ • Keep your head down-where are your eyes when ball is in the air? Stay disciplined • Get help from LOS official on catchable/uncatchable • OPI on pass unsure if ball is legal FWD pass or not/mechanic • Know the result of the play • Feet tangled-philosophy • Pre-lim signals • Cause and effect-it’s OK to have late flag • Process the play…DPI can be early in route • LOS official can help a BJ with an ‘arm-grab’ • Video Clip

  6. Catch/No Catch • Philosophy • Completing the ‘Process of the Catch’ • Going the ground either by contact or on own-all considered one motion, but it really is a process. Be slow, be patient, eye contact(if needed) and then signal. Use baseball example. • Video Clip

Legal/Illegal Pass, Illegal Touch, & Illegal Downfield • Legal Pass-(the norm) • Illegal Pass-(rare-whose call in 5 man/mechanic) • Illegal Touch-(rare-but be aware) • Illegal Downfield-(discuss philosophy) • Intentional Grounding-Philosophy/Only player intended to receive can legally get coverage.
