Processing Times • Processing times for Study/ Work Permit Applications can be found at the following link (see handouts): http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp • Send your application to renew your Work or Study Permit at least 30 days before its expiration date

Understanding Immigration Language • Work PermitThis is the document stapled in your passport that allows you to work in Canada. -- $150 to renew • Study Permit • This is the document stapled in your passport that allows you to study in Canada. -- $125 to renew • Your original was issued at the border when you arrived in Canada • Visa (Temporary Resident Visa or TRV) • Shiny foil sticker in your passport which allows you to ENTER Canada. -- $75 Single Entry / $150 Multiple entry • Applications for visas are only processed outside of Canada.

  19. Off Campus Work Permit Online Application If you are about to apply or renew an Off Campus Work Permit, you should click here to request the Eligibility Verification Number (EVN) first.

  22. Renew Study Permit - Online Application 90 days more than your graduation date. The date you completed all the requirement to your degree. Not the convocation date.

  23. Family member - Online Application Here you can choose if you want to apply for your family members’ extension or status change together. Then the next question will give you options for your family members application. e.g. Spouse Work Permit, Spouse Study Permit, or Visitor Record extension.

Off-Campus Work Permit – Reminders • After you have been granted an OCWP: • You should remain a full-time student, unless you are in your final term. • Not on Academic Probation (good academic standing). If anytime, you become part-time or have been put on Academic Probation, you need to return your Off Campus Work Permit to CIC office in Calgary at: Harry Hays Building Room 170 220 – 4th Avenue S.E. Calgary, Alberta T2G 4X3

  40. Work Permit Reminders • Coop/Off-Campus/Post-Graduation work permits are • not interchangeable. Each one has its own purpose. • No restriction on holding more than one permit • Graduate Students: If receiving a GRA or GTA we strongly • advise discussing your intentions to work off-campus with • your supervisor • Photocopy the complete application and all supporting documents. • Keep the copy for your records. If there is ever a problem, we need • this information in order to solve any problems you may have.

Applying for a Temporary Resident Visa • To get information and an application kit: • See Handout: “Applying For A Temporary Resident Visa” • Forms should be downloaded from local Canadian embassy website: • “Application for a Temporary Visa Made Outside of Canada” • -Document Checklist- for a Temporary Resident Visa • The Temporary Resident Visa does not need to be renewed when it expires unless you are planning to leave and then re-enter Canada. • It is your Study/Work Permit that allows you to stay in Canada. The visa is the document that allows you to re-enter Canada.
