HOLY GHOST OR HOLY SPIRIT • Now about spiritual gifts brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant • 1 Cor 12 v 1 • an apparition of a dead person which is believed to appear or become manifest to the living, typically as a nebulous image. • The definition of the Holy Spirit is God's continued presence on Earth and the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.

  2. There he found some disciples and Paul asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.“ Acts 19 v 1-2 • That was then but this is now! Different priorities. • Not spiritual enough

  3. Qualifications • Ambitious they wanted to be great? Mark 9 : 34 • Argumentative. They argued Mark 9: 33 • Cowardly Matt 26. Peter disowned Jesus 3 times • Critical Matt 26 : 8 They questioned the waste of expensive perfume • Doubtful John 20:25 Thomas wasn’t the only one • Dull Matt 15: 16 They often just didn’t get and understand Jesus • Prayerless. Lacking in prayer Mark 9 • Unforgiving. Peter for one lacked understanding about this. Matt 18:21

We are in a war • 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6 • 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Cor 10

  5. DO I WANT TO RECEIVE ANY OF THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT? • Earnestly desire the higher gifts 1 Cor 12:31 • Earnestly desire the spiritual gifts 1 Cor 14:1 • ‘To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good’ 1 Cor 12:7 • Ask, seek, knock for the things of the Kingdom Matt 7:7

  6. We are to earnestly desire the spiritual gifts of 1 Cor 12 & 14 as a means to pursue the love Paul describes in 1 Cor 13

  7. 1. Begin with the Bible • 2. Pray • 3. Consume sound teaching and testimonies • 4. Take steps of faith, and meet a Need
