  3. Tiers at JBHS Tiers are not a place, but instead a way of looking at the intensity of intervention. They are fluid and students should move through the tiers based upon their response to the intervention determined through data collection.
  4. Faculty are instructed in PBS each year and resources are found in faculty manuals Please refer to the TAB: “Positive Behavior Support” in your Faculty Manual.

  6. Reward Events ICE CREAM SOCIAL PBS sponsored an ICE CREAM SOCIAL! Students with 4 SOAR tickets were able to participate.
  7. District Level Support for PBS 1. The DC provides School Board members with PBS updates regularly. 2. Model Schools are recognized at a School Board meeting where schools are presented with their banners.  Schools are free to invite all faculty and administrators to this recognition event.  All School Board meetings are televised locally. 3. PBS information is included in the District Newsletter. 4. The DC presents regularly to our elected officials including; the County Commissioners, City Council members, School Board members and Administrators, the Shared Services Network which consists of many local elected officials. 5. The DC serves as the Chairperson of the Character Counts Advisory Board, the United Way Board of Directors, the SSN, and the Tobacco Prevention Coalition. PBS is brought forward at many of these meetings and all are encouraged to understand the importance of PBS and how it fits with developing assets, developing good character, substance abuse and violence abuse prevention.
  8. Community Support The District PBS team received support from our local Sport Clips to raise money to support district wide PBS initiatives.
  9. Targeted Intervention In August JBHS targeted dress code . 1st offense = warning 2nd offense = referral & after school detention Following the first 3 days of school , dress code was reinforced at different times of the day. Mrs. Featherstone, principal, made an announcement for teachers to check dress code and those students in dress code received a SOAR ticket.

  16. Peer Mentoring Developed at JBHS as a Tier 2/3 intervention by Andrea Levy, Guidance Counselor Students take Peer Mentoring as a class Students are trained in mentoring strategies.

  22. Peer Mentoring Students are referred for Peer Mentoring based upon a high number of referrals or teacher nomination. Peer Mentors are matched with students. Peer Mentors interview their mentee.

Peer Mentoring I am sending you a copy of the student intervention questionnaire.  You will fill this out while speaking to the student.  Please make any additional notes on the back.  It’s ok if the student doesn’t want to answer a question.  The questionnaire is a guide to help you speak with the student.  This will be located in the dean’s office along with yellow passes for the student.  For example: Step 1 go the dean’s office and ask Linda for the Student Intervention questionnaire forms Step 2 send a dean’s office runner to get the student from class Step 3 use the front conference room to ask the student these questions Step 4 when questionnaire is completed give back to Linda We want to make the student feel comfortable and to prevent them from getting referrals.  If each of us could do one student per week we could get the list done.  Thanks again.  Lori Kane Jensen Beach High School Math Teacher Class of 2008 Sponsor

  27. This student started the peer mentor program for the 2009 – 2010 school year. Since joining the program she has had no behavioral referrals. Prior to the program the majority of her difficulties focused around internalizing behaviors, but occasionally manifested into externalizing behaviors Example Student in Peer Mentor Program

  38. Student Support Center The support center was established to assist students through a variety of interventions to address behavior, academics or emotional issues. Teaching staff are assigned to the student support center as their school teaching position. The same staff run the support center throughout the year to maintain consistency.

Student Support Center Data 44% of students increased their GPA from when they began the intervention 78% were referred through SWIS 61% of students had some absenteeism issues 72% used CICO as at least one of their interventions 2% of students moved to tier 3 58% of students moved down to tier 1 or graduated
  40. Credit Recovery Lab
  41. Credit Recovery Lab Mr. Curchy reinforced students with SOAR tickets for completion of credits in the lab. The data was collected and interventions analyzed to meet student needs. 49 out of 50 seniors completed courses and will graduate. Over $400 worth of pizza and soda was also provided to reinforce students for performance.

Future Plans Pre and post data collection system to determine effectiveness of mental health counseling Peer Mentors will visit middle schools and discuss bullying in the fall of 2011 Bullying lessons were developed by students in the peer mentor program. DVD movies created by the students will be shared across schools.
