  2. Mrs. Jenkins • BA degree @ Cal Poly Pomona • MS degree @ Cal State Fullerton in Special Education • Teaching 4th grade for 8 years • 3rd year at Ybarra Academy

  3. 4th grade standards • Tested in Reading, Writing (Imaginative Narrative, Summary of Information or Response to Literature), and Math. • In 5th grade- also tested in Science and P.E. • In 8th grade- also tested in Social Studies

  4. Test Scores • We are still awaiting results!

  5. Reading levels • Scholastic Reading Inventory SRI will be used to determine each students’ reading level. Each student will be re-assessed every 6 weeks. • Min. of 25 minutes of reading every day • Reading logs will determine: • Total number of minutes each week as well as each month • Parent signature required at conclusion of week • Incentive at the end of the year (provided by the principal)

  6. AVID • Preparation for college • Cornell notes made by a college professor at Cornell University • Organized notes, binder, desk, study areas

  7. Homework planner • Parent signature in AGENDA everyday • Accountability for parents and students • Tuesday folders with info on missing work and behavior sent home weekly • Missing homework/class work due the FRIDAY after the report was given for CREDIT only! • NO LATE WORK

  8. Progress Report • Monthly • Missing reports will be printed weekly • Parent signature needed • Student has one week to complete all missing work for credit only

  9. International Baccalaureate (IB) Program • Developing Internationally minded people who help to create a better and more peaceful world. • Six units of study • Inquiry based learning and students’ curiosity drives our focus during the unit. • Home/School connection • See IB wall • Country of focus is ENGLAND (if you have artifacts to add we would love for you to share) • CULTURE TALKS (each student will present)

  11. Field Trips • Homestead Museum • Anaheim Recycling Facility • Knott’s Berry Farm “Westward Movement” with admission fee

  12. Binder check • Organized binders in order • Clean cover • Zipper pouch for supplies • Planner • Homework sleeve or folder • 5 or more dividers • Lined paper

  13. Textbook CDs • Loaner for Math, Science, Social studies textbooks • Replacement is approx $60

  14. Classroom supplies • Please donate any items that can be used in the classroom! Other items needed see wish list • Treasure box items for student incentive

  15. Parent volunteers • At home • Grading • At school • Copying, stapling, etc

  16. Home-School Compact • Please sign and return tomorrow • Please fill out and return Questionaire • as soon as possible

  17. Student Led Conference Week • October 8-12 • Early dismissal @ 1:30 daily • NO SCHOOL WED 10/10/12 • Please sign up tonight if you can! • Please plan to have your child attend as conferences are student led!
