And then some… • And then some… these three little words are the secret to success. • They are the difference between average people and top people in most companies. • The top people always do what is expected… and then some. • They are thoughtful of others: they are considerate and kind… and then some. • They are good friends and helpful neighbors… and then some. • We are thankful for people like this, for they make the world and Kemptown Elementary a better place. Their spirit of service is summed up in the three little words… and then some.
SMART Goals 2011-12 Smart Goal # 1 – Math • By end of 2013-14 school year: Increase Advanced MSA Math scores to 50% of all students in grades 3, 4, and 5. --Accelerated Math Class --Essential Curriculum Math Classes
SMART Goals 2011-12 Smart Goal #2 – Language Arts • Increase Proficient MSA scores each year until 2014, when we will have 100% of students score proficient or above in reading on the MSA. Smart Goal #3 – Professional Development • Professional Development Opportunities = 90% of staff highly satisfied.
SMART Goals 2011-12 Smart Goal #4 – Home-School Communication • We will support school-wide goals for student achievement by increasing: (1) parent/student knowledge of these goals (2) opportunities for parent involvement (3) frequency of parent participation (4) overall parent satisfaction
Our Daily Schedule • 8:30-9:05 – Homeroom, morning announcements • 9:05 – 11:20 – Language Arts • 11:20 – 12:05 - Specials • 12:05 – 12:55 – Lunch/Recess • 1:05 – 2:05 – Science/Social Studies • 2:05 – 3:20 – Math • 3:20 – 3:35 – Return to Homerooms • 3:35 - 4:00 – Dismissal • Double Specials (Wednesdays : 2:55 – Dismissal) • Media (Monday – Mrs. Tavenner; Tuesday – Mrs. Longley; Friday – Mrs. Sadtler) • Instrumental Music on Thursday
Grading Policy • Grading will be based on : -product quality -independent application of skills and processes -progress -announced deadlines – missing assignments will lower the grade in a subject area *Homework will account for 10% of final grades each quarter
Letter Grade Meanings • 90-100% - A – Exemplary Performance consistently meets or exceeds standards • 80-89% - B – Skilled Performance generally meets or exceeds standards • 70-79% - C – Satisfactory Performance meets a majority of standards • 60-69% - D – Minimally Acceptable Performance meets some standards • 59% - F – Unacceptable Performance meets few if any standards
Reading Whole Group, Small Group, and Individual Instruction 90 Minutes each day Instruction includes: Modeled Reading Mini Lesson Guided Reading Independent Application Informational Text Literary Text Reading Strategies Ongoing Assessment and Differentiation
Writing Includes Modeled Writing Mini Lesson, Guided Writing, and Independent Application. 40 Minutes daily Writing Focuses: Opinion, Informative/Explanatory, and Narrative Guided Writing includes instruction in writing skills, strategies, and process. Independent Application includes conferencing, Reader Response, opportunities to develop and refine writing skills Development of Word Processing Skills
