*Be sure to download Lame, too(it’s an MP3 encoder you’ll need)

To start: *When you first open Audacity, you get a blank page. There are no audio clips open.

Mixer Toolbar Output Input Input Selector These sliders control the mixer settings of the soundcard in your system
Lets look at the basics: One clip per track
Create a new project Select and choose a location and filename for your project. *When you startup Audacity fresh, only the “Save As…” menu option is available. To save your project later on, you can also use the keyboard shortcut: CTRL+S
Importing an audio file Audacity can import WAV, AIFF, AU, IRCAM, MP3 and OGG files.
Playback The imported file will look something like this: Now click the green play button at the top and you should hear the file you have just imported.
Recording with Audacity Click on the red Record button to begin recording. to pause the recording. Press it again to continue. Click on the blue Pause button to cease recording. The cursor will return to its previous position, before the recording was started. Click on the yellow Stop button
Cut, Copy, & Paste Be sure you have the ‘time shift’ tool selected.
Holding down your mouse as you move it back and forth will slide your audio

Moving bits of an Audio track The part after the pause is selected. pause Selected part
Then the split function is used to pop the selected audio to a new track.
The Time Shift Tool is selected and the audio on the lower track is moved to the left.
Mixing it back together again Before (6 tracks) After (2 tracks)
