New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) The Polytechnic Foundation Programme This offers a practice-oriented programme to better prepare polytechnic-bound N(A) students into relevant Diploma Courses Pupils must have sat for their GCE Secondary 4 NA Examinations. (applies for 2012 cohort)
Polytechnic Foundation Programme This provides an alternative to the Sec 5 year. Offered by all 5 Polytechnics. FP Programme students are given provisional places in diploma programmes subject to them passing all the modules in the one-year polytechnic FP

Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic (DES-to-Poly) Graduates from the DES intake will be assured either of a First-Year or Second Year place in a related Polytechnic Diploma Course, provided they achieve the qualifying ITE Grade point average (GPA)

SEC TWO STREAMING
Upper Secondary Curriculum Prepares pupils to continue their studies in an Institute of Higher Learning e.g. JCs or Polytechnics Need to understand the Entry Requirements for the JCs and Polytechnics
Educational Viewpoint • Subject options allow pupils to gain entry into JCs or Polytechnics • Attempt to match the strengths and weaknesses • BUT acknowledge that whatever the FINAL subject combination assigned, the pupil may encounter a mix of strengths and weaknesses
NA – Course Characteristics of Course 1 • Pupils must be confident in Maths • Strong overall across most subjects Characteristics of Course 2 • Pupils enjoy creative and hands-on work • Assessment by Coursework as well as by a Theory Paper • Selection for the Electives (e.g. D&T, F&N, Art) will be based on • Performance for that subject on merit andTeacher’s Recommendation
Principles used in Streaming • Streaming tries to match a student with a subject combination by considering ability and interest • Streaming is meritocratic. Students are placed using performance in terms of overall score & relevant subjects • Subject to places available for a particular subject combination
Streaming Process Application by pupils and parents – represents preference and assessment of strengths and weaknesses by pupils and parents Posting by school considers application, professional assessment of strength and weakness of pupils using their results and teachers’ knowledge of the pupil, applies meritocratic principle when places are limited by using overall score
