  2. 4-1 Introduction • In this chapter, you will learn about the Age of Exploration for Europeans. You will also learn about how Explorers sailed ships called Caravels to the New World.

  3. 4-2 Underwater Archeology • Archeologists look for sunken ships to understand the Europeans that explored America.

  4. 4-3 Bible • European explorers took the bible where ever they went because it had the stories and teachings of their faith.

  5. 4-4 Flag • Explorers carried flags to honor the kings and queens who permitted them to exploring to the New World.

  6. 4-5 Gold and Silver • Europeans counted wealth in gold and silver. They were happy to learn that the New World might have gold.

  7. 4-6 Food • All the Europeans that came to the New World brought foods and they took home some foods from the New World.

  8. 4-7 Tobacco • They thought that the tobacco was good for their health, but it was not. The women generally did not smoke. • This was a cash crop.

  9. 4-8 Astrolabe • The explorers in the 15th and 16th centuries used a astrolabe to find their position while sailing.

  10. 4-9 Compass • Europeans used a compass to find out what direction they were going.

  11. Maps 4-10 • European explorers carried maps of the ocean and maps of territories to which they journeyed.
