Paleo • Where the earliest known culture. • Was named the Paleolithic or Old Stone Age because the tools & weapons were made of stone. • They created a tool called the atlatl – a smooth stone sling. • The atlatl was used for a long time after they’re generations.
Early Middle Archaic Late
Early • Lived from 8000 B.C – 5000B.C • They started off hunting giant animals then ended up hunting smaller animals. • Because they started hunting smaller animals, they created smaller weapons.
Middle • Lived from 5000 B.C – 4000 B.C • Because this was after the ice age, the climate was warmer and dryer. • Also the water receded which allowed them to invent fishing. • In addition because of this they didn’t move around as much.
Late • Lived from 4000 B.C – 1000 B.C • This people started creating permeate settlements. • The also created two things a grooved axe to clear trees an bushes, & they created a clay container for storing cooking and to serve food
Woodland • Lived from 1000 B.C – 1000 A.D • These nomadic herders began to form tribes at this time. • Also they were creators of religions, the bow & arrow, and farming. • In addition to religion they created large cone shaped burial mounds for the dead.
Mississippian • Lived from 700 A.D – 1600 A.D • They got their name because they were located at the Mississippi river.
