Systemwide Safety ProgramsMajor Functions • Provide guidance and direction to schools, departments, and offices; • Oversee student and employee safety programs systemwide; • Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations; • Coordinate safety training; • Evaluate hazards, investigate accidents; • Coordinate playground installation/repair/replacement.

CY2013 Occupational Injury/Illness Data • 942 recordable occupational injuries/illnesses • $3,164,262.44 incurred workers’ compensation costs • Incidence rate (injuries/illnesses per 100 full-time employees): 5.7 CY2012 Occupational Injury/Illness Data • 1,278 recordable occupational injuries/illnesses • $5,339,537.08 incurred workers’ compensation costs • Incidence rate (injuries/illnesses per 100 full-time employees): 7.9

Online Safety Training (PDO) • Bloodborne Pathogens – Full (30 min), Refresher (15 min) – June 2, 2014 deadline • All school staff – Required annually • Ladder Safety (20 min) and PPE (20 min) – June 2, 2014 deadline • Building service staff • Hazard Communication: Right to Understand (25 min) and Safety Data Sheets (GHS) (19 min) – Dec. 01, 2013 deadline • Building service staff • Cafeteria staff • Art teachers • Secondary science, technology teachers • Security staff

Safety Program InformationUpdates and Reminders • Memo to all principals and directors (coming July) • Accidents, Injuries/Illnesses (report to OSSI) • Form 525-2 for student injuries • Infectious diseases (meningitis, tuberculosis, pertussis, rubella, measles, cholera, etc.) – notify school nurse, call SSP immediately (301-370-2141) • 1-888-606-2562 (first report of injury for staff injuries) • Work-related fatalities/hospitalization – call SSP immediately • MOSH inspection • Call SSP immediately
