Building Character for Success “Wrapping Up Your World” Lesson 9.6 Created By: Pam Gunter
Challenge for the Week – Follow Up • Does anyone remember what last week’s challenge was? How did everyone do? Would anyone like to share with the class what rule they worked on?
Preparation • Materials Needed: • A chalkboard or white board. • A 8 ½” x 14” piece of paper for each student. A pair of scissors. (You can pre-cut out a footprint for each student if it is easier.) • Classroom Setup: • Keep everyone in a large group.
The Activity • Have a student draw out a large picture of the world with the seven continents. Place a star where your class is located on the map. • Have each student make a footprint by outlining their foot. Cut out the footprint. • Explain that everyone will leave their footprints in this world; just like their heroes have left their “footprint” in their lives. • Have each student write one of their life goals on the footprint and have them share their goals one-by-one with the class. Ask them to place the footprint on the world.
The Object of the Lesson • Everyone is different and has different goals and aspirations in life. • No worthy goal is a foolish goal. • People from all walks of life have achieved many great things. • You have the power within yourself to accomplish anything great thing you desire. • True success is only achieved when you lift and build yourself, as well as others along the way. • Building strong characteristics now, will help you achieve great things throughout your life. • Now is the time to determine who you desire to be in life and start working toward those goals. Building a strong foundation of respect, honesty, courage and self-esteem will help you achieve many great goals in your life. • We don’t have to do it alone. As we choose great friends and mentors, we will have help along the way.
The Object of the Lesson - Continued • Not everyone will choose to be an Edison, Mother Theresa, or Neil Armstrong. It is okay! Everyone is different, with varying talents, interests and strengths. The key to remember is this: BE THE VERY BEST YOU CAN BE! (That is true success!)
Challenge for the Week • Take a few moments sometime during the week and dream. What contributions would you like to make to your school, family, church, community, etc.? Think about ways that you can help othersachieve their goals and then be supportive.
