Welcome to Curriculum Night Ms. Dempsey’s Classroom
Organizational Methods • Assignment Books – used to record all assignments whether completed or not. • Can check off assignments as completed. • Daily assignments are posted in class and on my webpage for Science. • Must access other teachers’ websites for their specific information.
Non Negotiables • All students will restate questions as part of a complete sentence answer. • All sentences and proper nouns will begin with capital letters. • All sentences will end with correct punctuation marks. • Sentences are never started with a pronoun (he, she, it, they,…).

Specials • P.E. for the students is held 5 days a week. • Students will have Music -Monday, Art – Tuesday, Study Skills- Wednesday, Technology/Action Lab – Thursday, and Library – Friday.
Science Curriculum • Science – This year will focus on earth science. The students will be given different texts throughout the year depending upon which area we are covering at the time. • Introduction (Book P) • Earth Science (Red books) • Inside the Restless Earth (Book F) • Earth’s Changing Surface (Book G) • Weather and Climate (Book I) • Astronomy (Book J)

Lunch Study Group • Study groups will be offered prior to each assessment and are open to all students. • Students may also seek out help at lunch. • Monday, Wed., and every other Friday – in science room. • Tues., Thurs., every other Friday in regular school study hall.
Grading Scale • 100 – 90 A • 89 – 80 B • 79 – 70 C • 69 – 60 D • 59 – 50 F
Reassessment Procedure on Summatives • First effort should always be students best effort. • Students receiving a D or an F on a summative will automatically retest on the material. • A, B, C grades may choose 1 summative per quarter to take reassessment. • The second grade is the final grade.
Reassessment Procedure • Reassessments will be completed no later than 1 week after to original assessment. • Students taking a reassessment will consult with me first to determine the areas with which they struggled. • Students must attend one lunch study group prior to reassessment. • Students must get study guide signed by parent or guardian assuring that student is taking time to study at home for reassessment. • Reassessment will be given at lunch in the reassessment room. • Once again the second attempt is the final grade.
