Ambulatory Committee Working with leaders from large healthcare enterprises, small physician offices and the military health system, plus consulting and vendor communities, the Ambulatory Information Systems Steering Committee expands HIMSS’ ability to increase the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care by removing barriers to IT adoption, and increasing the use of EHRs and Business Systems Integration in physician offices and outpatient care settings. ACHO’s Task Force Vision To be a national constituency of ambulatory community health organizations that encourages the informed development and adoption of interoperable HIT for improving patient care and cost-effectiveness for the underserved.
ACHO’s Task Force Mission • To foster collaboration and information-sharing among Ambulatory CHOs and IT vendors that: • Produces cost, workflow and quality benefits, • Promotes standardization/commonality in ACHO performance monitoring and interoperability, • Identifies opportunities for successful HIT implementation and sustainability, and • Publicizes models for success. • Provide resources and Tools to HIMSS members on CHO adoption and use of Health Information Technology

Davies CHO Award • HIMSS plans to announce the expansion of the Davies Award of Excellence program to include the Davies Community Health Organization (CHO) Award in the first quarter of 2008. • The purpose of this award is to recognize CHOs that have succeeded with implementations of Electronic Health Records (EHR) in their clinics and to share their approaches and lessons learned more broadly. • Application requirements such as “What Services must be Rendered”, definition of “What Counts as an EHR”, “Length of required EHR Implementation”, are currently under development and will be provided with the launch of the Award.
