BIM Modeling in Detailed with Different Levels of Details(LOD)

BIM modeling can be used by anyone in the AEC Industry. It is the future of the sector. It has been seen that 3D BIM models of 3D buildings have been highly reliable by both large and small companies in recent years. BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an intelligent technology tool that creates three-dimensional models of buildings for different purposes. 1. BIM Modeling in Detailed with Different Levels of Details (LOD) BIM modeling can be used by anyone in the AEC Industry. It is the future of the sector. It has been seen that 3D BIM models of 3D buildings have been highly reliable by both large and small companies in recent years. BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an intelligent technology tool that creates three- dimensional models of buildings for different purposes. It is a powerful visualization tool that can be used to dominate projects wherever it is used. BIM is a common tool used by engineers, contractors, project owners, and architects. Building information modeling has many advantages that make it so popular. This tool has revolutionized the way the industry operates. As it adds additional details to the table, every user can count on its three-dimensional aspect. These details make the project more level. Once stakeholders have a BIM model for their project, there’s no going back. It’s a great tool that provides users with a lot of conveniences. LOD is an important aspect of 3D BIM modeling services that can add real value to a project. LOD stands for Level of Development. It is used to describe the entire process, from the way a project functions to the final project. LOD, which is a collection of parameters that provide the AEC industry with all the necessary information, simplifies things. This information is useful in documenting the process and improving efficiency. This allows everyone involved to represent their project elements in a refined way at different levels of development. When BIM specialists collaborate with architects and designers, the desired results can always be achieved. This helps everyone involved in the project to understand it better by giving specific details. How LOD does help in detailed BIM modeling? The BIM models are extremely detailed and ensure that geometric elements remain in place. This information makes the process more efficient in terms of accuracy and quality. This allows professionals to trust the information to a certain level. BIM modeling is a systematic process that ensures success. It optimizes the regulation of the process toward an efficient output. The LOD allows the designers to understand the features and integrate them into the various phases of the project. This gives you a better understanding of the model being built. This allows for better execution and result of the BIM project. This level of detail opens up communication channels for designers, contractors, as well as other members of the team. This makes BIM even more useful and practical. LOD framework can be used as a communication tool for project stakeholders.

  2. The origin of the LOD concept? LOD is a term that was initiated by AIA, i.e. the American Institute of Architects. 2008 was the year of the instigation. Five levels of detail were then introduced to provide the detailing stage for any 3D BIM model. Although AIA is the one who deserves credit for the term, the original concept was there. Revit software, which is software for building analysis, has used a similar approach to calculate project costs. They found certain stages in their design process to be most useful. Although this concept has evolved over time and now has six levels, it was created in 2000. Different Levels of Detail (LOD): LOD 100 (Concept Design) This is the first stage of a building project. It shows the model from the simplest possible perspective with very little information. Models are represented using either symbolic or graphical connotations. The model’s detail defines the size, area, heights, orientation, volume, and so forth. This model generally uses approximate terms. LOD 200 (Schematic Design) The second stage of detail consists of details about the materials and their quantities of them. This stage shows the model in its entirety. The different modeling characteristics are displayed according to their exact shapes, sizes, locations, and orientations. This stage also includes non-geometric and non-graphical information. Even though this stage is approximate, it can be used.

  3. LOD 300 (Detailed Design) All measurements and information related to the model are now presented in a more precise form. The model’s characteristics are presented in a more detailed manner. The model provides precise details about the dimensions, shape, quantity, position, orientation, and size. Based on the requirements of raw materials and other resources, the details are calculated. The elements and the definition of the project are given here. LOD 350 (Construction Documentation) The actual construction can begin once the foundation has been built. This stage is where clash detection takes place. Clashes are immediately rectified. A connection is made between the various construction elements and other buildings. These characteristics are not graphical. LOD 400 (Fabrication & Assembly) This is a crucial stage of the modeling process. This stage is where the fine details of the model are added for final execution. This stage includes all details of the project.

  4. LOD 500 (As-Built) This stage incorporates the final graphical elements into the finished project. This stage shows all changes and deviations to the original design. This final model serves as a reference point for all future operational activities related to building construction. It will be there throughout the project’s life cycle. Conclusion BIM intelligence is based on the inclusion of the Level of Detail (LOD), in its modeling process. It makes the model more accessible without compromising its fundamental details. It allows professionals to have more information about the construction process and maintains communication. The LOD also accurately sets the graphical outcome so that the final model does not suffer from any errors. The various stages ensure that each stage is given enough attention and work is done productively. Designers and other professionals can attest to the high productivity LOD brings to the workplace.
