  2. MANDATE OF THE MRM • The Moral Regeneration Movement {MRM} is a networking platform mandated to facilitate and coordinate all processes and initiatives aimed at combating moral degeneration. Working with and through local structures in communities, the MRM seeks to promote local action and commitment from within the various communities of the country at their levels of existence and operation. • As a civil society driven initiative supported by government, the Moral Regeneration Programme gives an opportunity to redouble our efforts as a full partnership of the people, also to pay special attention to issues of development, social cohesion, and nation building through the Moral Regeneration Movement, as well as traditional and cultural programmes. PROGRAMMES • 1998–:Moral Summit • Former President NR Mandela meets with religious leaders to discuss moral degeneration • 2000–:First round of consultations • Participants: DoE, SABC, Presidency, FBOs • 2001-: Broader Consultations • Working committee setup • 2002–:National Launch addressed by the Patron Mr. JG Zuma then Deputy President of South Africa and 1st Patron of MRM • 2003–: MRM Secretariat employed under the Chairmanship of Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa MRM Presentation to Arts & Culture Portfolio Committee 22/08/2012

PROGRAMMES • 2003–: The Charter Campaign launched by then Deputy President Jacob Zuma • 2004–: MRM National Conference: Addressed by the MRM Patron Honourable Deputy President Mr. JG Zuma • 2005-: MRM National Conference: Addressed by the MRM Patron Honourable Deputy President Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka • 2007–: The Charter of Positive Values is finalized at Ekurhuleni • 2008–: The Charter of Positive Values presented to the Honourable former President of the Republic of South Africa Dr. Nelson Mandela by the MRM Board of Directors at the Nelson Mandela Foundation on 25 July MRM Presentation to Arts & Culture Portfolio Committee 22/08/2012

PROGRAMMES • 2008-: The Charter of Positive Values adopted at the Waterkloof Air-Force Base on 28 July by the MRM Patron Ms Mlambo-Ngcuka, then Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa • 2009-: MRM Month officially launched and opened by the Minister of Arts and Culture Ms. L Xingwana in Limpopo • 2009–: MRM National Conference 25 – 27 November • Gala Dinner addressed by Minister of Arts and Culture Ms. L Xingwana • Conference addressed by Honourable Deputy President of the Republic Mr. PK Motlanthe • 2010–: MRM Month officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Mr. P Mashatile at Mmabatho Convention Centre in North West MRM Presentation to Arts & Culture Portfolio Committee 22/08/2012

PROGRAMMES • 2010–: Official Closure of the MRM Month by the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Honourable PK Motlanthe at iLembe District in KwaZulu Natal • 2011-: MRM Month officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Dr. J Phaahla at CRC Church in Kimberley in Northern Cape • 2011-: Official Closure of the MRM Month by the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Honourable PK Motlanthe at Nelson Mandela Metro University Missionvale Campus at the Nelson Mandela Metro in Eastern Cape MRM Presentation to Arts & Culture Portfolio Committee 22/08/2012

PROGRAMMES • 2011-: MRM Youth Programme [pilot] targeting both in school and out of school youth and 16 Youth Coordinators employed two from each Province with the exception of Western Cape as part of MRM’s job creation and skills transfer programme • 2012–: Official Opening Ceremony of the MRM Month by the MEC of Social Development in Free State • 2012-: Official Closure of the MRM Month by the Deputy Minister in the office of the Presidency Mr. Obed Bapela in Gauteng MRM Presentation to Arts & Culture Portfolio Committee 22/08/2012
