Mrs. Rodriguez – Room 204 • Reading • Spelling • AR is an important part of reading, your child must read daily for at least 30 minutes at home to meet his/her AR goal for each six weeks and improve in fluency, comprehension and more!

Attendance and punctuality: • Students come into our classrooms everyday at 7:50. • Attendance is posted between 8:05 and 8:10. • A student is considered tardy after 8:05. • Please make sure that your child is punctual and ready with all required supplies for everyday use. If unable to attend, your child is responsible for catching up with lessons at a teacher designated time and place. • We need your child in class everyday, he/she is part of our class and we don’t want anyone to miss any learning opportunities!
Communication tools: • Agendas • Students write their assignments every day in their agendas. • Students and parents may find weekly conduct grades in agenda every Friday. Parents will sign agendas over the weekend. • Parents and Teachers may send notes in agendas to keep in touch with each other. Curriculum and Testing: All 5th grade teachers will be following TEKS throughout the year, these skills are taught and enriched in various ways. Each teacher will use different resources to provide students with learning opportunities for each and every 5th grade TEKS. Our Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (or TEKS) may be found at www.tea.state.tx.us You will find all the skills and concepts that your child will learn or practice this year and learned during the previous years.
Curriculum and Testing (continued): Testing: 5th grade students will take 2 benchmarks for the following subjects throughout the school year: Reading, Math and Science Benchmark grades will not be recorded in Grade book. Six Weeks Testing (CBA): At the end of each six weeks, students will test all learned concepts for content areas: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Grammar, and Writing. CBA grades will be recorded in Grade book. There will be no retesting for CBAs.
Curriculum and Testing (continued): Testing: 5th grade students will take a total of three state tests – STAAR during the second semester of the school year for the following subjects : Math – 4/1/14 Reading – 4/2/14 Science – 4/23/14 These tests are mandated, for more information visit Texas Education Agency website at www.tea.state.tx.us
Curriculum and Testing (continued): Testing: You will be able to see your child’s grades for Benchmarks and CBAs in their agenda. Please check the agenda regularly for testing dates and grades, and make sure that your child attends school EVERYDAY so that he/she does not miss any instruction or testing.
