Integrating information towards Digital ATM European view on Global developments Presented By: Paul BOSMAN Date: August 27, 2013
Agenda • XM - State of the union • XM information service exchange – How real is it all ? • The ‘GIF’ • Architecting • A last minute bonus
XM - State of the (global) union • AIXM • Increasing implementations • Digital NOTAM • Lessons learned • WXXM • IWXXM • Reality mapping • Data coming (really) AIRM • FIXM • Impressive momentum–v2/CCB • OPS connect What about me ? AIDX, AMDB, Asterix, Inspire, NIEM, PIXM, TIXM, …
SESAR SWIM Masterclass 2013 >20 data providers, >50 data consumers, >100 participants, (Non-OPS) May – November 2013 Exchanged information services: Flight, Weather, Aeron, Surveillance, Environment, Aircraft, Support, …
SESAR Registry - I • Pilot implementation • Objectives • TrackingMasterclass participants & contributions • Promotion of Models, Compliance Criteria, Assessment tools • Market place • Content > 50 Organizations (Providers & Consumers) > 50 Services (From doc to WSDL/…)
SESAR Registry - II Lessons learned Usage = Obligation * Benefit * Guidance Information Quality - Validation very resource intensive Sensitive information Next Steps Governance support (AIRM/Services/…) Design time Runtime Real time Policy enforcement Federating Registries (e.g. FAA/ICAO/…) trials
A zoom-inAIXM lessons learned • AIXM5.1 data from +- 10 different system suppliers & sources tested • Data, Model, Documentation • Findings Techno • Syntax • XSD code generation • Samle datasets • Limiting rules • Common test/compliance 'service' • Semantic • Common Business Rules • Improved reference to Authorative documents • Guidance
Compliance Increasingly demand for compliance rules/tools/agreements Remember last year ‘NSDMCG’ Answer Global Interoperability Framework (GIF)
Example : AIRM in the Global Interoperability Framework L3 : Constraints AIRM Compliant L2 – Properties & Relationships AIRM Compatible L1 – Entities AIRM Ready Now being applied to AIXM, WXXM, FIXM but also e.g. EUROCAE/RTCA standard ED-99C, User Requirements for Aerodrome Mapping Information
Architecting Remember the 300 rafts down the Colarado river ? The SESAR answer European ATM Architecture
Example : i4D / CTA European ATM Architecture Key Architecture Elements Cost effectiveness/Fuel Eff. Predictability Service Capability Activity Operational Improvement Validation Target Operational Focus Area Traffic Situation Awareness Traj Exec & Monitoring Traj Revision & Update Objective Not : total control But : Fixing inconsistencies, gaps, duplications But also : Killing the hobbies Building realistic implementation plans Information Element Information Exchange Enabler # XYZ Negociate & allocate CTA Update / Revise Trajectory Report Aircraft ETA MinMax Report Aircraft Trajectory Service Payload : AIRM Aircraft Enroute/APP ATC XMs/… (FIXM/ED133/…) System
The bonus Building on the NM B2B – SWIM Pioneer Flight & Aeronautical information webservices Disclaimer: Only a subset, great learning experience (techno , syntax +- , Semantics )
Conclusions • Digital Data exchange is only tip of iceberg of much bigger Business transformation • A lot more guidance will be required • And as compliance questions will not go away yes, also a Global Interoperability Framework • Supported by a mixture of joint developments, trials/demos, specifications, and … common architecturing • In all cases its hard (and mostly fun) work ;-)
