  4. ODS Operational Data Services • Generic service delivery platform • Based on service oriented architecture principles • SWIM enabler • ODS project will deliver a flight plan filing service • Flight model and information exchange is FIXM 3

  5. ODS and FIXM • Adopted FIXM v0.1 early 2012 • Complex, immature • Migrated to FIXM v1.0 August 2012 • ICAO FPL, perfect fit, some issues • Migrated to FIXM v1.1 January 2013 • Defect fixes, maturity • Migrating to FIXM v2.0 now • Major restructure, no FPL focus 4

  6. Extensions • SARTIME • Time at which search and rescue activities are initiated • Similar concepts in Canada and New Zealand • Itineraries • A sequence of time ordered flights • Could be all movements of a specific airframe • Could be all flights the pilot will conduct • AIDX has itinerary concept 5

  7. Hybrid Ops • FIXM operations is the end goal • There will be a considerable transition period • Necessary to handle both FIXM and ICAO 4444 ATS messaging • Accept FIXM, distribute FPL • Accept FPL, store/distribute as FIXM • More generally situation being pursued by ATMRPP via FF-ICE 6

  8. Service Layers Logical Architecture Web Services AFTN FPL, CHG, DLA, CNL, DEP, ARR Validate, Create, Modify, Cancel, Retrieve ATS Message Service FIXM Service 7

  11. Is early adoption worth it? Yes! • Model developed by broad spectrum of international partners • Early experience invaluable • FIXM enabled systems earlier • Progress with flight matching issues 10

  12. Services • Services are not in scope for FIXM • Airservices are developing their own set of services • FIXM needs standardized services • ISRM (Information Services Reference Model) will address this, but some way off • We need standardized services in the shorter term for interoperability 11

  13. Progress • FIXM progress has been rapid • Unusual for a global standard • Positive effect on implementers • The momentum has to continue • Strategy/governance must facilitate progress • v3.0, first sufficiently complete version for global exchange 12
