  1. Bell Ringer 1st of the week • Think of an example of a person that has power in our society. They can be anyone you deem to be a important person to people. Why do you think they have power? Think Politicians, Doctors, Lawyers, popular Business owners. Write 4-5 Sentences.

  2. Feudal Society Medieval Europe

  3. Why was feudalism necessary? • A. After the Roman Empire collapsed, Europe had no strong central govt. • B. Cities were much smaller and were no longer economic sites but places to huddle for protection.

  4. C. Former tenant farmers and slaves of Rome became the peasants who worked for the landed upper class in return for a protected place to live. • D. Some small landowners willing gave up their land to the nobles in order to have a safe haven. • E. Nobles who had the land also had the political power.

  17. The Real Power? • A. All nobles were ultimately vassals of the king. • 1. Nobles provided the king with knights to form an army for defense and conquest • 2. Because of this, the real power belonged to the nobles.
