  3. Today’s discussion • Many different Home Group formats • Diversity of potential Home Group problems • Variety of solutions • Process of implementing solutions

What is a home group? • In many communities, a home group is: • That one group an addict always attends where they have a special bond with the other members • Where one celebrates clean time milestones • Where one is missed when absent • Where one is most likely to do service • Where one votes on ASC or RSC business • Where members discuss and/or vote on the WSC CAR motions and CAT business

  5. Home group attributes • Consistency and commitment • Spirit of service • Benefits of service • Spiritual principles in action • Positive perspective • Initimacy • A sense of home

  6. Common home grouppractices • Safe, positive environment of recovery • Teaching principles to newcomers • Self Support • Good public relations • Encouraging diversity • Nurture all members

  7. Common challenges • Keeping and rotating trusted servants • Keeping an atmosphere of recovery during the whole meeting • 7th Tradition collections and flow of funds • Appropriate size • Encouraging an NA message • Length of time people share • Meeting format • Cliques that create an unwelcoming vibe to visitors and newcomers

  8. Large GroupDiscussion No. 1 • What are common challenges faced by your Home Groups? • After the discussion, everyone come up to the flip charts and put a mark next to the three challenges that you see the most in your home groups

Home Group discussion • Your table has miraculously become your home group! • Select a facilitator and scribe • Choose two of the high priority topics identified by the large group • Brainstorm ideas for resolving each challenge • Create a plan to address each challenge and identify the steps to implement it. • Describe it on the flip charts • 20 minutes for each challenge

Building strongHome group Materials • This presentation grew out of the Building Strong Home Groups Issue Discussion Topic from the 2006-2008 WSC Cycle • Members can download the materials from that presentation to workshop within your own home groups • On your tables are worksheets you can use for your own home groups • The Group IP and Handbook also mention the home group concept
