  2. Importance – Addressing Unanswered Questions • Dominguez Channel is impaired • But How? Why? How do we improve the water quality? Who is responsible? • How do we get there? • How long will it take? • How much will it cost? • Who should bear the burden?

Answering Questions: Bringing Stakeholders Together and … • Scientifically Based and Technically Feasible • Good Science – leading to robust solutions • Involvement in, and commitment to, the process • Equitable and timely • Data will help the Regional Board develop TMDLs and source allocation

TMDL Project • TMDL Work Scope has been outlined • DCWAC Committees formed (Funding, TMDL, Technical, Scope/Workplan) • Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) to finalize work scope and initiate field investigations • Preliminary estimate developed: $1.5MM 2001-2003 • Related work being outlined • Harbor circulation model

  6. Involvement • Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) • Supporting DCWAC in 2001-2003 • Why is WSPA involved? • Additional municipal support key – it will take all of us to “make it happen”

  7. Current efforts for Master Plan • Master Plan developed by LA Department of Public Works • RFP to prepare Master Plan issued for consultant • $200,000 in State funds already authorized • Proposals due for review in November • Work anticipated to begin 1/2002
