WESTAR’s States • Big and small • Urban and rural • Most populous and least populous • Most of the Class I areas
State Priorities • Three priority groupings: • I: Priority to significant majority of states • II: Priority to half the states • III: Priority to multiple states
Group I • Attain and maintain the National Ambient Air Quality Standards • “Prevent NAAQS violations” • “Protect public health through attainment and maintenance of the NAAQS” • “Protect air quality through compliance with the NAAQS”
Group II • The following were priorities to approximately half the states: • Address health impacts from toxic air pollutants • PSD reform and implementation • Source emission reductions and source compliance
Group III • The following were priorities for 3-5 states: • SIP reform/improvements • Reduce motor vehicle emissions • Address 8-hour and rural ozone • Implement NSR reforms • Improve visibility in Class I areas • Implement/improve air quality monitoring systems
