Genre Our genre is Psychological/crime thriller as it reflects our narrative and characters. Narrative/Plot Our opening sequence is from a film which is based on a detective who is solving a murder, similar to crime that happened to his sister five years ago. while solving this crime he begins to have flashbacks of the crime from his past, the murder of his sister, that he had been suppressing.
Characters Detective :The detective is the main character within the film, he is involved as he has relationship with the dead victim, his sister. Killer (Villain) is the one behind the whole narrative, the ending of the film will reveal who the killer is. During the film there will be hints and diversion to finding who the killer might be. The sister is one of the victims within the film. Her murder creates the plot to the film. Although his sister isn’t a main character in the film, she is included in his flashbacks. Victim 1 helps trigger the plot as with out the death and the similar link to his sisters death he would not have started to have flash backs.
Target Audience Our target audience will be targeted at teenagers to adults, 15-30. The reason to this is because young children would fear, and not understand a thriller’s narrative and elderly people may be interested in things that are more targeted at their age. Although thrillers have a mass of audience, it is most likely to be targeted at male as other things are targeted to female, e.g. Chick flicks. The social class to our thriller may gain middle classes/higher class where other genres such as comedy may be targeted to the working class.
Location Location Our shooting location will be Preston Rockery, We chose this location because we felt it would be perfect for our opening sequence because its isolated, secretive and not many people go there so it would be an ideal place for filming. We also chose the location because its close to the college so it means we will have more time for filming and its
Establishing shot This is the establishing shot of our location (Preston Rockery). We mainly chose this location because of its many properties like hidden dark areas, small bridges and different levels of heights which will help in building an exciting and intense environment
Lighting Lighting used should be gloomy and murky as it will reflect back to our genre, Psychological/ crime thriller. The lighting will help reinforce the mood of the film, and will also help mirror the detectives mood/figure of expression. Costume The costume will help identify the character, stereotypically detectives tend to wear long coats and sometimes even a hat.
Props The props will be used to help reinforce the status of the character e.g. to help emphasize the identity of the character e.g. ID used by the detective, news paper which will include an image of the dead sister which will help show viewers what happened in the detective’s past. It will act as a hint to the narrative/plot Figure of expression The figure of expression will suggest the mood and reflect back to the film. The figure of expression used within our film should be serious as there is a criminal involved. Also the detective will be confused by the sudden flashes from his past, and he will also be observant as he tries to solve the crime.
Sound During any flashbacks their will be a sound track constantly playing quietly. The music will be eerie and mysterious. The music will also help the viewer see when the character is having a flashback and when he is not. Before the character goes into a flashback he will suffer from a headache and there will be a loud wind like sound. During the film the increase of wind will be a sign to show that a flashback is coming. Titles The titles will be placed over shots so there will not be any long parts of just text on the screen. The titles will be placed in the corner of the screen and have a flickering effect. At the end on the opening sequence the title of the film will be shown against a black background.
