Goal • Harlingen will provide first class recreational facilities for its youth and will attract regional, state and national tournaments in baseball, softball and soccer.
Project Updates • Athletic Field Lighting – Arroyo, Victor and Pendleton Park - Complete • Playground and Park Equipment – Wilson Sports Complex, McKelvey, Pendleton and Dixieland Parks • Restroom project at McKelvey & Pendleton Parks • Project being led by Glenda Ledesma • Parking Lot Improvement Project – Arroyo and Wilson Sports Complex - Complete • Athletic Field Fencing Project- Arroyo and Victor Park - Complete
Project Updates • Trail Master Plan – already awarded & being drafted • Picnic Table Project - Complete • Park Equipment (benches, fountains, and bike racks) - Complete • Sidewalks – Arroyo and Wilson Sports Complex - Complete • Pendleton Park Land Acquisition - Complete • Swimming Pool Renovations – Lon C. Hill and Victor Park Pools - Complete
Parks • Purchase and install the following Park Amenities: 200 picnic tables, 100 benches, 25 bicycle racks, 25 water fountains, 1,000 feet of sidewalk, 3,000 feet of fencing (PONY fields at Victor Park, softball fields at Arroyo Park), 250 additional parking spaces (Arroyo Park, Wilson Complex);

Lighting • Light the fields at the Wilson Youth Sports Complex, Arroyo Park, Victor Park & Pendleton Park

Master Trail Plan • Develop a Trail Master Plan and partner with the Irrigation District to utilize Canal open spaces for trails • Awarded to Halff Associates - • In the process of hosting public forums and community wide meetings • Should be complete by October 2009

Upgrades • Upgrade and replace worn equipment in Parks • Upgrade and replace deteriorated Christmas decorations • Financially support Community Wide events, such as RioFest, activities at the Museum, Jalapeno 100, Blues on the Hill, Jackson Street Jubilee
Landscaping • Improve existing landscaping and entryways at Victor, Wilson, Pendleton and Dixieland Parks
2009 National PONYGirl’s Softball TournamentJuly 26th – August 1st Approximately 130 Teams
Pending or underway… • Build amphitheatre with bathrooms at McKelvey Park • Develop Children’s Activity Center/Museum • Develop Veterans’ Memorial • Develop Birding Center • Explore private ventures, (i.e. short-term: putt-putt golf courses, batting cages; • medium-term: water park, band pavilion, soccer complex-phase II) • Partner for the construction of an Ice House near a city park
