    2. What is Vanpool? Vanpooling - Vanpools are similar to carpools, except they involve more people. A vanpool is a group of 5 to 15 people who regularly travel together to work usually 30 miles or more (roundtrip) in a van. Benefits to Vanpooling Vanpoolers can shave an average of 20 minutes off of their commute time Lower the stress Lower driving costs Help “do your part” to cleaner air and reduced traffic

Metro’s Vanpool Program Description Metro administers the Metro Vanpool Program to provide alternative transportation choices to commuters, improve air quality, and reduce congestion on regional roadways. This program offers a monthly financial subsidy to commuter vanpools to offset the monthly lease fare to each vanpool passenger.

    4. What is Metro’s Vanpool Program? Metro provides an ongoing subsidy of up to $400 per month to vanpools of 5-15 passengers that have their commutes end in Los Angeles County. Thirty-two percent (32%) of vanpools in Metro’s program either start or end their commute in a South Bay City.

Eligibility Requirements Vanpool that ends at an employment site in Los Angeles County Vanpool begins with 70% occupancy e.g., minimum of 5 passengers for 7-passenger van (driver is included) Available (empty) seats are open to the public Vanpool participant agrees to all program requirements including reporting Maintain program guidelines and reporting requirements Employee may enter into agreement without employer

    7. Metro - SBCCOG Relationship Metro and South Bay Cities Council of Governments are working on a pilot project to market Metro’s Vanpool program. Concerted outreach and marketing is being conducted through the South Bay Environmental Services Center. Metro and SBESC see cities as a partner in marketing the program.

Metro SBCCOG Outreach Program City Connections Employees, Employers, Commercial Property Owners, Commercial Property Managers, Developers, General public Direct connection with Employers Direct connection with Developers, Building Owner and Property Managers Promote the program to residents Work with Chambers and other business organizations to promote the Vanpool Program to their membership Promote Metro’s Vanpool Program at community events

Key Benefits Meet land use, circulation and sustainability goals Vanpools provide measureable trip and emission reductions Direct CMP credit Actionable Trip Reduction Ordinance (TRO) benefit Help solve parking issues Facilitate sustainability efforts (AB 32 & SB 375) Building Owners/Property Managers Comply with TRO requirements Reduce Parking Demands Direct Transportation Demand Management (TDM) element Help with tenant retention Provide economic stimulus Reduce Carbon Footprint

    11. Key Benefits Businesses/Employers Provide regulated employers with a proven solution (AQMD Rule 2202) Enhance economic development activities Offer the program as an additional benefit to employees at no cost Residents Offers residents with a commute option Meet “Green” initiatives

SBESC/Metro Support SBESC staff will work with Metro to will provide the following support: Organize meetings with Employers Organize information meetings for city employees Organize meetings with developers, building owners and property managers Attend special events Conduct surveys and provides analysis to determine vanpool potential Conduct formation meetings at employers and multitenant sites Help organize vanpool start-up
