Original Configuration of JGN2 TH-JP Circuit As of Nov 2005 CBR on each VLAN CBR on each VLAN Foundry NI400 Foundry NI400 ATM 45Mbps GE GE (physical I/F: OC3) Virtual Channel (VC) VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q) VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q) mapping mapping • ThaiSarn and JGN2 are connected via ATM 45Mbps circuit terminated by • Foundry NI400 switches with OC3 physical interfaces. • VLANs are mapped to VCs (Virtual Channels) over ATM. • The problem was … • NI400 cannot shape traffic in VP (Virtual Path) level, but VC level only. • Without any traffic shaping, NI400 tried to send packets onto ATM circuit up to its • physical bandwidth (155Mbps). This causes packet loss at carrier’s ATM switch. • To avoid packet loss, we had to shape traffic per VC bases (set as CBR). • This causes burdensome operation and inconvenience to users.
Current Configuration of JGN2 TH-JP Circuit since Mar 22, 2006 VP-shaping Foundry NI400 NEC ATOMIS NEC ATOMIS Foundry NI400 ATM 45Mbps GE GE (physical I/F: OC3) UBR on each VLAN UBR on each VLAN • VP-shaping capable ATM switches (NEC ATOMIS5S) are inserted between • NI400 switches. • ATOMIS switches shape traffic per VP-basis. • Each VC is configured as UBR, not CBR.
ATM Switch Installation • Mar 21-22, 2006 • Installation of new ATM switch (ATOMIS5S) • at ThaiSarn NOC (Bangkok Thai Tower) • some performance tests
Result of Performance Test • Performance test by iPerf (UDP/Bi-directional)
