Kick Off MeetingIsland of San Servolo - Venice, Italy11th to 13th February 2008 WP 24 Intermodal Transport Kai Häkkinen, Martin Ollus VTT
WP 24 objectives and contribution to EURIDICE objectives • WP24 objects: To create new common knowledge to support the development of a management and operation information system for intermodal operations and demonstrate the results in concrete applications based on the common EURIDICE platform to be defined in WP21 and developed in WP22. • EURIDICE object: EURIDICE aims to create the necessary concepts, technological solutions and business models to establish the most advanced information services for freight transportation in EUROPE. • WP24 objectives and contribution to EURIDICE objectives are based on the common goal to increase the intermodal transportation in Europe. WP24 support EURIDICE objects by creating an intermodal transport related specification of the needed information system.
Task 24.1 Definitions of case scenarios and inputs to S/T research (m1-m18). Leader: TREDIT • Application of the regulation 62/2006 and other regulations, directives, laws, present practices. Etc. • Management principles and approaches • Key performance indicators and their features • Operation support approaches, like principles for intelligent alert systems • Interoperability and integration between the partners’ information systems • Deliverables: • ID24.1 Intermodal case scenarios and early business related requirements (month 9) • ID24.2 Preliminary vision of intermodal applications (month 12) • D24.1 Final application requirements for intermodal transport (month 11) • Milestones: • M6 Intermodal transport scenario and preliminary requirements
Task 24.2 Design and development of the management and information system (m7-m30): Leader: VTT • Based on identified operators’ requirements from Task 24.1 • Will be built on the models developed in WP12 • Utilize the methods and tools for collection and analysis from WP13 • Main issues are: • Data collection and warehousing • Solutions for communication between actors • Operations support systems • Interfaces between systems • User interfaces and operators dashboard • Deliverables: • D24.2a Intermodal transport application design and prototype (a = management system) (month 23) • Milestones: • M18 Intermodal transport requirements
Task 24.3 Design and development of an ICT-platform (m7-m30). Leader: VTT • Based on the results from the task 24.2 • Based on the framework developed in WP11 • Communication • Identification • Positioning • Security • Operator interfaces • Deliverables: • D24.2b Intermodal transport application design and prototype (b = design of platform) (month 23) • Milestones: • -
Task 24.4 Integration and prototype realization (m19-m30). Leader: VIU • The task designs and implements the prototype system • The prototype system will be realized into a pilot • Based on the ICT-platform from the task 24.3 and the Intelligent Cargo Integration from the project 1 • As a minimum the pilot system would cover the GPS/GPRS-module connected to the operator’s management and information system • The operator’s dashboard will be realized by using common commercial navigation and other applications • Deliverables: • ID24.3 Demonstration system for intermodal transport (month 30) • Milestones: • M30 Intermodal pilot demonstration
Task 24.5 prototype evaluation and enhancement (m31-m36). Leader: FHV • Will be done in close collaboration with the end users • End users will be involved in the testing and evaluation process • The intermediate results will preliminary be evaluated by the project partners • Sub-systems and larger ones will also be assessed by outside experts, mainly in connection with the impact creation activities in the project 3 • Deliverables: • D24.3 Intermodal transport pilot operation and system validation report (month 36) • Milestones: • M36 Feedback and evaluation of intermodal pilot
WP 24 partners and roles • VTT, Technical Research Centre of Finland • VIU, Venice International University, Italy • TREDIT, Transeuropean Consultant for Transport, Development and Information Technology, Greece • CeTIM, Center for Technology and Innovation Managament, Munich, Germany • LogicaCMG, Netherlands • FHV, University of Applied Scienes, Fachhochschule Vorarlberg, Austria • SeaRail, Intermodal Operator Company, Turku, Finland Leader of WP24 and T242 and T243 Leader of T244 Leader of T241 Expert Expert Leader of T245 Case company
WP 24 and horizontal issues; relationships to other EURIDICE Wps
WP 24 and horizontal issues • Identification of key external parties for coordination purposes • Need to be discussed with the partners • Identification of potential contributions to standardization activities • Need to be discussed with the partners • One standard to be noticed in WP24 is the COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No 62/2006 concerning the technical specification for interoperability relating to the telematic applications for freight subsystem of the trans-European conventional rail system. • On the other hand, can WP24 contribute something to the regulation 62/2006 process? • Preliminary identification of exploitation issues • Need to be discussed with the partners
WP 24 and regulation 62/2006 • The regulation 62/2006 takes into account the present service providers and the various possible service providers of the future involved in freight transport as they are for (this list is not exhaustive): • wagons • locomotives • drivers • switching and hump shunting • slot selling • shipment management • train composition • train Operation • train monitoring • train controlling • shipment monitoring • inspections and repair of wagon and/or locomotive • customs clearance • operating intermodal terminals • haulage management.
WP 24 and horizontal issues; identification of what results could be disseminated to whom and when • Need to be discussed with the partners. • In Finland we can think to create a continuous communication process with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and The Finnish Association of Logistics. That communication process could be arranged in collaboration with VTT and SeaRail. • Dissemination meetings • Articles to their newspapers • In Europe we could think the Intermodal operators and other related stake holders.
WP 24 and organization issues • Communications, working methods and reporting (guidelines to be provided by Coordinator) • Meeting schedule for 2008 (overall guidance to be provided by Coordinator) • We need WP24 kick off meeting as soon as possible. The task T241 (Definitions of case scenarios) need to be started
