A Heart to Serve Romans 12:1-8
Paul is explaining how to live out the will of God: • Keep in mind the rich mercy of God to you - past, present, and future (by the mercies of God) • As a reasonable act of intelligent worship, decide to yield your entire self to Him (present your bodies a living sacrifice) • Resist conformity to the thoughts and actions of this world (do not be conformed) • By focus on God's Word and fellowship with Him, be transformed by the renewing of your mind
Why is it reasonable? • Justification • Adoption in Jesus and identification with Christ • Set under grace not law • The gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit • Help in all affliction • The certainty of coming glory • The confidence of no separation from the love of God • Total confidence in God’s continued faithfulness
Dedication • Transformation • Evaluation
Evaluation • Have the right attitude about ourselves in relation to God • Sober thinking • Remembering His grace • In Him we live and move and have our being • Have the right attitude about ourselves in relation to each other
Godly relationships • See ourselves in relation to the rest of the body • The work of Christ is to done in community • The church is composed of many members • The members are interrelated
“God has gifted me and He has given me a way to serve Him for His glory” • This attitude will lead to unity which is then expressed through v.6-8 discerning and using our God-given gifts to build up the body. • Some of what you have is meant for others, that God’s economy.
