Interdisciplinary Learning
Home Learning in P5 • Pupils are provided with a ‘wall’ of bricks in their home learning jotter. The wall is also available on the school website. Each brick has a learning activity allocated to it. Pupils are given a start date and completion date for the wall and are expected to carry out tasks each week. • In P5 - P7 pupils have personalisation and choice as to what, when and how they complete tasks. It is hoped that the tasks planned allow for challenge & enjoyment and are relevant to the pupils’ learning. Some tasks provide opportunity to deepen learning that has already taken place in school. The different tasks allow pupils to consider the best way to present their work – this may mean drawing a diagram, making a model, preparing a talk, writing a letter, visiting a museum – pupils can MAKE, SAY, WRITE or DO! • Each class has a ‘Home Learning Hub’ where pupils share and display their home learning. This provides an opportunity for peer and self assessment and for pupils to learn and get ideas from each other. Home learning tasks are assessed by class teachers using a variety of Assessment is for Learning strategies. Examples of these are traffic lights, two stars and a wish, verbal feedback, written comments etc.
Reading in P5 • Children will discuss their reading with their teacher. • Children will be given choice of what to read within their level. • They will meet their Book Club every Thursday to talk about what has been read and carry out some tasks. • Some groups will require daily reading input with an adult in school and at home. • It is expected that children will read their Book Club book at home in order to support learning in class.
How will you know what your child is learning and what is happening in school? School Communication • Website • Email through Parentpay – paper copy if not signed up • Text messages • Phone the office
Class Communication • There will be a weekly bulletin put onto the P5 class page of the website.
