  1. Afterschool Snack Program and Distribution Guide

  2. What is the Afterschool Snack program? It is a federal program offered under the National School Lunch Program for Pamlico County Schools. Afterschool snacks give children a nutritional boost and draw them into supervised activities that are safe, fun and filled with learning opportunities. The benefit of these snacks help ensure that children receive nutrition while they learn, grow and play.

  3. What is a Snack ?A snack consist of a combination of 2 pre-packaged items such as a milk, juice, bread, protein or fruit.

  4. Snack ExamplesRemember to provide two different items to each student or as directed by the cafeteria manager. Remember snacks are for students only.

  5. Distribution of Snacks The Right Way !

  6. What is the right way to distribute snacks?Without exception, staff must distribute snacks as a unit for it to be considered a meal. Students are not given the option of dividing the unit because of personal preference.

  7. Snack Roster and QuantityThe snackroster should list all students enrolled in the afterschool snack program. This roster must be given to the cafeteria manager prior to the program initiation. This important document will not only list the students names but will also verify each snack unit distributed by an adult program sponsor. The cafeteria manager will only provide a snack for each enrolled student that is listed on the roster. The adult sponsor will pick up the afternoon snacks from the cafeteria manager at a predetermined time. After the snacks have been distributed, the adult program sponsor must sign and date the roster.

  8. FinallyThe roster and all remaining snacks that were not distributed will need to be returned to the cafeteria manager. Thank you for following safe food handling practices and for supporting the Afterschool Snack Program. Please contact the Child Nutrition office for any questions pertaining to this program.
