Mrs. Clark HI! My name is Mrs. Clark and I am so excited to be part of this math team but most importantly I am so excited to be your teacher this year.
This year… It is going to be a year of hard work, lots of fun, lots of learning, new adventures and I can’t wait to see what this year has to bring. I am most excited to learn all about you, but first, here is a little about me – your fearless math teacher.
About me I was born and raised in a VERY small town just a wee bit north of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I went to high school and university in Canada where I earned a bachelor’s degree. I moved to Georgia in 2005 to attend Kennesaw State University where I got my teaching degree, and graduated summa cum laude. I have taught in Paulding County, Cobb County, middle school and high school but New Manchester is exactly where I want to be.
More about me I am married to a wonderful man who works in Information Technology. Together we’ve been through all sorts of adventures.
More about me I love to run, read and spend time with those who are most important in my life.
More about me I also love to travel. I’ve been all over the world including South Africa, Israel, Honduras, The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Greece (to name only a few).
More about me I’ve also been all over the US including California, Nevada, New York, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Minnesota (and many more).
My weekends On weekends I work for Biplane Rides Over Atlanta. My official title is “ground hostess” but I really just make sure everyone has a good time.
Non negotiablesNew Manchester • Do not detract from instruction • Dress code • Disrespect for authority • Tardy
Non negotiablesMrs. Clark • Be in your seat when the bell rings ready to work • I dismiss you, not the bell • Stay in your seat, ask permission to get up • Don’t argue • I don’t take late work – excused absences can turn in missed work • NO eating in class – NOT negotiable • Be prepared
Procedures • When the bell rings to start class, you are in your seat, ready to work – NOT talking, not trying to find supplies, not being foolish • When you have a question, concern or comment – raise your hand • Bathroom passes – 3 per year (yup, 3)
Common mistakes freshmen make • Thinking you can work as hard as you did in middle school here in high school • Thinking middle school behaviour is acceptable in high school • Thinking that you’ll ‘win’ if you argue.
Why learn math? • The whole point of learning this, and other maths, is to keep on building, designing, moving forward. • Maybe the average person won’t use these things in real life; but that is why the people who DO use them get paid a lot of money. • If you are one of those ‘average’ people who don’t use math, then your job probably contains less thinking, a lot of physical labor, and people telling you what to do all day.
Why learn math • You don’t want to be average do you? • So whether or not you use it every day doesn’t matter, knowing and understanding is the price of admission to a better life • Do you want a better life?
