2. Dota 2 Terms • Mana – uses to cast spells • Creeps – they spawn from the barracks • Last Hit – to kill creeps for gold • Deny – to kill your creeps • Wards – give vision to area/invisible units • Gank – surprise attack • Courier - brings items to heroes

3. The Gameplay • A 3 lane strategy game • Creeps move through the lanes • Destroy the ancient building to win • 11 towers and 6 barracks before ancient • Each player picks a hero • 2 sides divided by river, Radiant, Dire • Destroy the buildings to move on

4. Abilities • All heroes need to cast spells • They are casted with mana • They are used in many ways • Used to escape, stun, damage, move heroes • Each hero has an ultimate spell • Ultimate is usually the best spell • Game mode where you pick abilities

5. Heroes • Three kinds of heroes, agility, strength, intelligence • Intelligence gives a higher base mana pool • Mana is used to cast spells • Strength gives more base health • Agility gives extra attack speed • Hero gaining respective attribute gains attack damage • There are 107 heroes to choose from

6. Roles • Every hero has a different role • Roles determined by hero’s attributes and abilities • Some examples carry, support, disabler, ganker, initiator • Carry deals most of the teams damage • Ganker to surprise attack enemy team • Initiator starts the fights • Supports buy wards, courier and helpful items

7. Laning Phase • Beginning of the game is most important • In this phase players will try to farm • Carries last hit for strong items • Supports deny creeps to gain advantage • Wards help spot heroes to stop gank • Usually ends at minute 7-8

8. Items • Helps grant damage and other effects • Items can heal team/ give armor • Grants health, mana or regeneration • Can disable enemies • Can grant aura effects • Can give invisible or movability • Items can be activated or passive

9. Professional • There are many professional teams • One popular team is Na'Vi • That team won the first internationals • Professionals needs quick and accurate reactions • 2 Teams of 5 face each other • Winners move up to winners bracket

10. International • There has been 3 internationals so far • International is the largest Dota event • International 3 had prize pool of $1,437,190 • International 1 winner was Na'Vi • Next was Invictus Gaming • The most recent was Alliance • Forth is coming in summer of 2014

11. Facts • Dota the prequel of Dota 2 • Dotareleased in 16 Nov 2013 • Foreign song created Sep. 15, 2006 • Songfor Dotahas over 32 million hits • League of Legends is competitor of Dota • Created by Valve which powers games

12. Release • Game beta started in 17 Aug 2011 • Dota 2 officially released July 9, 2013 • There has been many updates since release • Updates change skills or add heroes • Millions play Dota 2 per day • There was a trailer

13. Runes • Runes- invisible, haste, illusion, regeneration, double damage • Invisible – give invisibility • Haste – gives highest movement speed • Illusion – gives 2 illusions • Regeneration – regenerates until full health or attacked • Double Damage- doubles base damage

14. River • River splits up dire and radiant sides • River spawns runes every 2 minutes • Mid heroes go through river to gank • Mid heroes usually have bottles • Bottles hold runes to activate later • Wards on river to spot heroes/runes

15. Mid Heroes • Heroes with ultimate needed will go mid • Mid heroes gank when ultimates are ready • Ultimates earned by levels 6, 11, 16 • Lanes with disadvantage need ganks

16. Customize • You can customize heroes • You can have sets • Items are different than the in game • You have different pieces to customize • You can trade items or buy • Some items count kills, assists etc.

17. Sport • Dota 2 is considered a sport • It’s like other sports that require teamwork • Can create combinations with different heroes
