  3. Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus- A navigator sent by Spain to find a western route to India. He discovered the New World by landing in the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus discovered the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus : Bahamas::Ponce de Leon : Florida

  17. Cold War Cold War- beginning in the late 1940s and the ending in the late 1980s between the U.S,A, and the Soviet Union. They competed world influence without actually fighting The Cold War wasn’t really a war because they never shot at each other Cold War – fired :: Britain :: war

  18. Communism Communism- A system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all who need them. In the Soviet Union , a small political party controlled all the factors of production and made decisions about what was going to be produced , how it was produced, and who would receive them. Communism was unfair for many people cause they were being controlled Communism : people :: Nazism : Jews

  19. Superpowers Superpowers- the United States and Soviet Union were the most powerful nations after WW2 So many people were very scared of the superpower because they had more of everything Superpowers: U.S.A and Soviet Union :: Cold War : U.S.A and Soviet Union

  20. NATO NATO – North Atlantic Treaty Organization; The U.S and other western European countries formed NATO to respond to possible attacks by Soviet Union. NATO was a great thing for so many people than were being attacked NATO : U.S :: Warsaw Pact: Soviet Union

  22. Iron Curtain Iron Curtain - the imaginary line that separated communist eastern Europe from democratic western Europe The Iron Curtain was called that cause iron is really hard to get though Iron Curtain: democratic and communist :: Berlin wall : east and west

  23. Soviet Union / U.S.S.R U.S.S.R-Former name Russia and other communist countries ;broke up in 1991 The U.S.S.R was very bad when it was up in power and then it broke in 1991 U.S.S.R : Russia :: Ottoman Empire

  24. Berlin Wall Berlin Wall- wall in Germany that separated East and West Berlin from 1961- 1989 The Berlin Wall made it rally hard for east people go to the west and the other way so it was a hard time Berlin Wall : people :: Iron Curtain : countries

Reunification Reunification- making something whole that has been split into pieces. after the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Germans voted to make the countries of East and West Germany one country Reunification was very good for Germany because it got to be one again Reunification : Germany :: twin towers: smaller twin towers
