  4. Objective Given classroom instruction, each student will properly conduct the inspection, donning, and adjusting of the Full Body Harness with no error that would jeopardize safety

  5. Full Body Harness • Training References - OSHA 1926.502 CFR 29 - AFOSH 91-31 - T.O 00-25-245 section 1 - Manufacture’s Inspection document

  6. Full Body Harness • Two types of harnesses - L3321 -- Back D-ring, chest strap, adjuster buckles on leg straps (yellow nylon) - L1310000 -- same as L3321 except nylon is orange and leg adjustments have eyelets

  7. Full Body Harness • Proper care for your harness - Corrosion - Chemical hazards - Excessive Heat - Electrical hazards - Capacity

  8. Full Body Harness • Proper care (cont). - Corrosion -- Keep metal as dry as possible - Chemical hazards -- Acids & chemicals will deteriorate and weaken harness (inspect prior to use)

  9. Full Body Harness • Proper care (cont). - Excessive Heat -- Avoid direct flames, high temperatures, spark producing equipment - Electrical Hazards -- Avoid high voltage environment due to the conductive metal rings & buckles - Capacity -- Do not exceed 310 lbs

  11. Full Body Harness • Inspection -- Performed prior every use -- Supervisor’s are required to document inspection every 6 months -- Unsafe equipment must be reported to your supervisor and replaced a.s.a.p -- Destroy equipment and replace for a one for one swap

  12. Full Body Harness • Inspection • - I.D label & plastic keepers - Buckles & D-ring -- Inspect metal for worn parts, functionality of hardware, cracks, corrosion, burrs, sharp edges and security of attachments.

  13. Full Body Harness • Inspection (webbing) - Check for wear, cuts, frayed edges, frayed strap material, discoloration may be caused by exposure to heat or chemicals, burns, holes - Do not attempt to repair the harness or modify for temp fixes

  14. Full Body Harness • Inspect Energy Absorber -- Verify absorber is still intact and has not been subjected to forces of a fall -- Inspect energy absorber for evidence of elongation or tears -- Inspect for excessive wear or deterioration (destroy and replace equipment)

  15. Full Body Harness What must you do if you detect a harness unserviceable? 1. Report the defected equipment to your supervisor. 2. Destroy the equipment so no one accidentally wears it. 3. Replace the equipment immediately

  16. Full Body Harness How long will it take your body to hit the ground off a 18 foot wing on the C-130? At what speed will your body be travelling after a 1 second fall? .56 or 1/2 second 21 miles per hour

Full Body Harness • Donning and Adjusting - Hold the harness by the back D-ring and unwind loose straps - Slide one arm at a time so the harness can rest on both shoulders,connect chest strap - Grab one of the belts and mate the eyelets until all the slack is taken on the leg, repeat the same procedure for the other leg
